TFT-LCD equipment market to rise 20 percent in 2008 after tailspin in 2007, says The Information Network

The worldwide market for array processing equipment for TFT-LCDs will increase 20 percent in 2008 after dropping 50 percent in 2007, according to the report LCD Market: Technology Directions, Markets, recently published by The Information Network. "The LCD equipment market is in a tailspin," said Dr. Robert N. Castellano, President of The Information Network. "Despite rising panel prices, LCD manufacturers have put the breaks on any CapEx spending for 2007. Blame it on the FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) factor."

Uncertainty with the U.S. economy, the largest consumer market in the world, is impacting CapEx spending in 2007. Equally important, composite leading indicators signal a weakening outlook for most major global economies.

The supply glut experienced in 2006 and 2007 will abate in Q2 2008 and the equipment industry will recover for the entire year, growing 20% and another 9% in 2009. LCD manufacturers will be ramping for Generation 8 plants in expectation of a huge demand for large-sized LCD TVs.
